What You’ll Learn
Gemmology 3 and Gemmology 4 are similar practical courses designed to let students apply their new gem identification skills when faced with gems of similar colours and appearances.
In EGM’s well-equipped laboratory classroom students will observe and test carefully selected specimens from EGM’s vast collection of gemstones. Each course focuses on a series of gemstones grouped by colour and students must differentiate and identify each individual gem material.
Gemmology 3 covers gemstones of the following colours:
- Yellow and brown gems
- Pink and purple gems
- Colourless gems
- Black and white gems
What You’ll Receive
Students receive comprehensive course notes with a list of gemstone properties and identifying features that will serve as a valuable reference for the future. Students who successfully complete the course and pass the final practical exam will receive an attestation from EGM.
Languages and Schedule
This course is offered in English (on Wednesdays) and French (on Thursdays). Classes are from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. one evening a week for fifteen weeks. See course calendar for dates.

At the end of the workshop and if you have passed the evaluation test, you will receive a certificate from the EGM.
For those who want to further pursue their gemmological training, EGM offers a Certificate program. Students who complete Gemmology 1, 2, 3, and 4, as well as the Diamond Grading, Coloured Stone Grading and Pearl Grading Workshops can sit the EGM Certificate exams. Students who successfully pass the Certificate theory and practical exams will receive an EGM Certificate in Gemmology.
