In a relaxed atmosphere guided by passionate experts, you will discover the fascinating world of coloured stones, going through their history, discovering the extraction methods, the producing countries and mining, their sizes, the different gradation systems for coloured gemstones.
You will used different worldwide grading systems (Gemewizard, World of Color, GIA Gem Set and Gemdialogue). Also, you will be able to understand what is the value of a gemstone compared to other similar gemstones and know its monetary value.
Thanks to the EGM teachers and the courses developed by the WGF (World Gem Foundation), you will discuss their treatments as well as synthetic gems.

Gemstones covered in this course include corundum (rubies and sapphires), beryl (emeralds, aquamarines and other beryls), chrysoberyl (alexandrite and other chrysoberyl), spinel, zircon, topaz, tourmaline, peridot, quartz, garnet, tanzanite, lapis lazuli, turquoise, spodumene (kunzite and hiddenite), feldspars, iolite, andalusite, diopside, apatite, and organic gems (pearls, coral, jet, ivory, and amber).

This course is aimed at both the curious who wish to know more about the world of gemstones, students wishing to become professional gemmologists, and gemmologists wishing to upgrade or deepen their knowledge.

If you choose to take this course online (digital or printed version), you can start and finish this course whenever you want. 4 hours of tutoring, which you schedule at your convenience, are offered to accompany you in your learning. If you wish, you can follow these tutoring hours on-site at the EGM (once you have selected your hours, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org).
If you choose to take this course on-site at the EGM, classes are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and sometimes Fridays, from 9am to 12pm and from 1pm to 4pm, according to the announced schedule. At that moment, classes on-site are given only in French.

How to register
Online (by clicking on the “I register” button on the right), by mail or by phone at 514 844-0024. Registration for courses in French has to be done on the French version of the page.
Once registered, you will receive your student access code for the digital version of the courses, even if you are taking the courses on-site.
If you choose the e-learning version, you will be able to request four hours of tutoring at your convenience. This tutoring is individual, and is provided by one of the EGM teachers. You can sign up for additional tutoring if you wish (fee extra).
The Coloured Gemstones course is sanctioned by exams after the fourth, tenth, sixteenth, twenty-fifth and thirtieth lesson. These are done online.
The results are available quickly. In case of failure, a second attempt is allocated, free of charge.
A certificate is issued.
