The WGF is an international not-for-profit organization. Its objective is to promote gemmology as a science, by offering quality and comprehensive courses, both theoretical and practical. It allows students to acquire three international diplomas: Career Gemmologist, Diamond Professional, Coloured Gemstone Professional.
The Montreal School of Gemmology has taken over the exclusive license of the WGF for the entire Canadian territory under the banner of the Gem Academy of Canada.
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is an internationally renowned educational institute and laboratory specializing in gemmological research and training.
For over 10 years EGM has worked with GIA to bring their courses to Montreal. EGM also serves as an exam centre for GIA correspondence students who often take EGM classes or workshops to compliment their studies and increase their chances of success.
EGM and the Canadian Gemmological Association (CGA) have worked together to promote the importance of gemmological training in Canada. EGM sponsors the CGA annual gemmological conference held every fall in either Toronto or Vancouver. Based in Toronto, this assocation aims to create relations between gemmologists across the country.
Many EGM students go on to pursue careers in the local jewellery industry and EGM is proud to support the Quebec Jewellers Corporation (CBQ). Every year EGM participates in their Expo Prestige show where local jewellers come to buy gems and jewellery. See the events calendar and come and visit us at the show.
The Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) is a Canada wide trade organization offering support for both jewellers and consumers. The CJA runs the Accredited Appraiser Program and confers the title of Certified Appraisal Professional (CAP) to jewellery appraisers who have met the high standards of their program.
EGM’s Gem and Jewellery Appraisal Course is recognized by CJA as an appraisal- training program leading to the designation of CAP.
Gemworld International is an industry leader in education and publisher of the GemGuide: a market driven gem pricing guide and trade magazine. Gemworld President Richard Drucker has been a frequent lecturer at EGM and Gemworld International endorses EGM’s Gem and Jewellery Appraisal Course.
EGM maintains close ties with both the Montreal Gem and Mineral Club and Club de mineralogie de Montreal and participates in local shows hosted by the two clubs. EGM offers free gemmological advice to show participants and visitors. See the events calendar and visit us at one of the shows.
Based in Nantes, France, GEM SELECTION specializes in the trading of diamonds, precious stones and semi-precious stones. It is aimed at professional customers.
