Introductory Workshop in Rough Diamond Grading

Seeing the 'diamond in the rough' requires an understanding of the morphology and crystallization of rough diamonds.  This one-day workshop introduces the student to the physical properties responsible for diamonds being the hardest, most brilliant, and most sought after gem.

Students spend the morning learning about and observing important characteristics of diamond crystallography.  This is an essential component of rough diamond grading.  The afternoon session focuses on seeing the rough from the perspective of a diamond cutter.  Students will learn how to sort rough diamonds and decide, based on their shapes, how the diamond cutter should proceed. Students will start to grade the colour and clarity of rough diamonds and learn the basic concepts of valuation of rough diamonds.

This course is open to anyone who is fascinated by the unique properties of diamonds and is a required course for those wishing to obtain a Diploma of rough diamond grading.
